The original Moulton bicycle was designed by Alex Moulton and launched in 1962 at the Earls Court Cycle Show, it quickly became an icon of the decade as it was seen as the bike equivalent of the mini skirt and the many different mini cars fashionable at the time.

In 1967 Moulton was sold to Raleigh, Alex Moulton remained active in the company but the partnership was short lived due partly to the massive success of the Chopper, which overshadowed the Moulton MkIII resulting in Raleigh ceasing production of the bikes.

Throughout the 70s and 80s Alex refined his new 'Spaceframe' design and by the early 1990s Pashley started producing some of the bikes.

In 2008 a new collaborative company was formed between Moulton and Pashley, it was named 'Moulton Bicycle'.

All Moulton bikes have been built in England with the exception of a small run by Raleigh South Africa in the 1960s and by Bridgestone in Japan in 2000.

Although some models do split apart Moultons are not really 'folding bikes' as they are sometimes refered to but rather 'small wheeled'.
